The Green Register of Construction Professionals

In 1999 when the practice started up, archipeleco identified several under-served areas in the field of sustainable design:

  • a lack of information for clients seeking professionals experienced in sustainable design
  • construction professionals with enthusiasm for sustainable issues but a lack of knowledge in these areas
  • not enough networking and support between professionals sharing an interest in ecological issues

archipeleco conceived of The Green Register of Construction Professionals to address these issues and the Register was formally launched in October 2000. The practice was joined by Southwark Energy Agency (now Sustainable Energy Action - SEA) and initially supported by Southwark Building Control. The Green Register is now independent and has grown from a Southwark based pilot project to a nation-wide Register of like-minded professionals and trades people. All members of the Green Register have attended a two-day introductory course in Sustainable Building and Services, designed to cover all the basic environmental issues relating to the construction industry. The Green Register also runs regular events, such as evening lectures and site visits to important sustainably sound buildings.
